I have to admit, I’ve always wanted to say that.
And with that: Hi! And welcome to the newest blog on EMS Blogs. It’s nice to have you around and I hope you’ll stick around for the wild ride that is my EMS career. I’ll also be giving my $0.02 about everything from EMS issues to home cooking recipes and maybe even a little (I stress “little”) politics here and there.
But mostly it’ll be about EMS and my life in it.
I’m going to keep myself anonymous on here, mainly because my employer doesn’t really care for blogs or social media as a whole. We’re not allowed to even look at Facebook or Twitter while we’re at work so if they knew about this I’d really be in trouble. It’s not like I’m going to violate privacy or anything because, well, I’m not going to. I just love EMS. I want to see it get better and I want to blog about it.
I want to be another voice. We need so many more.
However, I will tell you a little about myself. I’m a medic with a couple of years under my belt at a hospital based EMS in a medium sized city somewhere in the US. I also do some part time work at a fire based EMS in a nearby town. I’m probably a lot like other medics out there. I started out as a volunteer firefighter and got interested in EMS from responding to calls with my department’s EMRs and EMTs. Eventually I became an EMT, started working full time and loved it. Naturally I wanted to progress and becoming a medic was the next logical step. A couple of years later, here I am.
I’m still trying to find what I consider “my place” in the EMS world but I love the journey. I love EMS and I want to see it prosper. We can be so much more than we currently are and I hope to somehow help it along. I also want to be the best medic I can be for my patients so that I’m able to care for them properly and completely. Each shift brings its own set of new challenges and I always learn something new. I love that aspect of my job. As you might have noticed I’m also a backer of EMS 2.0 and I hope you’ll take a moment to read about it on the menu tab above.
I’ll also be talking about it pretty regularly.
I’m married to a very patient, kind and understanding woman who put up with my craziness in school and who keeps putting up with the craziness that is EMS. When I first told her of the crazy idea I had of becoming an EMT and then becoming a medic she wasn’t so sure at fist. However, she fully supports me and has adjusted to the crazy life we lead. I love her more than she’ll ever know and I’m so grateful for her love of me.
I’ll also talk about her a good bit.
Thanks for checking out Medic 51! I won’t promise a new post every single day but I’ll post as much as I can and who knows what I’ll talk about in any given post. I’m looking forward to getting really started and I’m glad you’re along for the trip. Oh, and yes my name is in tribute to Johnny and Roy on Emergency! but this isn’t a fan blog per se so if that’s how you found me, I apologize in advance. However, I’m sure I’ll be mentioning them regularly too!
